Program Director Dr. Kent Fellows spoke with this Nunavut publication prior to the research team's planned engagement session in Rankin Inlet on November 1. Dr. Fellows highlighted the Research Program's academic nature and its lack of affiliation with any government, development-oriented organization, or project proponent, emphasizing the team's interest in open discussion and honest feedback. Unfortunately, the session in Rankin Inlet was cancelled due to weather-related flight cancellations.

My Grande Prairie Now

People can give their feedback online or by registering for the in-person engagement session. The discussion online so far revolves around the biggest infrastructure needs in Grande Prairie, how they differ from other places in Alberta, and the impact a network of corridors could have on the region.

Le 15 septembre prochain, l’École de politique publique de l’Université de Calgary consultera virtuellement la population de Chibougamau et des environs sur le projet de Corridor nordique canadien de transports et de télécommunications.

Le projet, présenté initialement vers 2016, vise à constituer un réseau septentrional et pancanadien de transport routier, ferroviaire et pipelinier, de télécommunications et de distribution d’électricité, qui serait connecté au sud.

Program Director Dr. Kent Fellows spoke with Yukon radio station The Rush about the CNC research team's upcoming visit to Whitehorse for a community engagement session on August 29.

On June 10, CNC postdoctoral associate Dr. Katharina Koch led a discussion session for The Arctic Institute’s first ever conference, “Polar (In)Securities: The Future of Global Affairs in the Circumpolar North.” Dr. Koch hosted speakers Dr. P. Whitney Lackenbauer, Dr. Nathan Debortoli, and Dr. Steven Vamosi to discuss the multi-faceted considerations of Arctic security in the context of infrastructure development in the Canadian North.

On June 10, CNC postdoctoral associate Dr. Evgeniia (Jen) Sidorova led a discussion session for The Arctic Institute’s first ever conference, “Polar (In)Securities: The Future of Global Affairs in the Circumpolar North.” Dr. Sidorova’s session brought together Dr. Jenanne Ferguson, Lauren Clavelle, and Dr. Lackenbauer for a conversation on Indigenous engagement and knowledge co-production in northern Canada.

Dr. Evgeniia (Jen) Sidorova, Postdoctoral Associate with the Canadian Northern Corridor program, spoke with Global News about the release of a CNC study examining the role of Indigenous and local knowledge (ILK) in Community-based Environmental Monitoring. Dr. Sidorova and co-author Dr. Luis Viria (RU Delft/University of Calgary) found that the inclusion of ILK in environmental monitoring processes can increase their effectiveness and empower the communities involved.

Open Connection

On March 24, Drs. Jen Sidorova (Postdoctoral Associate) and Robert Mansell (Senior Scientific Advisor) spoke with Robert Pictou for CFTK-TV's Open Connection program about how the CNC Research Program is exploring the role multi-modal corridors could play in social and economic opportunities for northern regions. CFTK is based in Terrace, a community in northern British Columbia.
